An Evening at the Ballet

When Julie was in sixth grade, my secretary, her 13 year old daughter my boss, her two daughters, Julie, and I went to see Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo. The dancers were a trifle ugly and very clumsy. They hadn't shaved their legs, and could have stood to have shaved their arms. The audience howled with laughter. It was, indeed, one of the funniest things I had ever seen. They lumbered and stumbled around the stage. The more they danced, the more they didn't quite get it right, the more we laughed.

Finally, came the intermission. Julie turned to me with disbelief and some degree of shame on her face. She found it hard enough to believe that anyone would laugh at dancers who were having such a bad night, but she had believed better of me.

That's when I realized that she didn't know the Trocks are a drag ballet group and they are supposed to be funny.

I always thought we went with your boss to that show...I didn't remember it being your secretary. :) Anyway, I guess maybe that should have tipped us off that I needed glasses, huh? I couldn't even tell they were men. Ha!

J, I think you are right and it was my boss. We did things with both of them that year.

Well, that tells me what a compassionate little girl Julie was...how sweet.

I saw them on TV once and I have always wanted to see a full show! I went to the club "La Cage Aux Folles" in LA about 23 years ago, and that was great!
