Raven

I love ravens. They are so bright. And bold. And funny. Eagles are elegant and dignified and lovely. But raven gots cheek. And I loves cheek. Ravens are raucous. And I loves raucous. Raven is said, in this part of the country, to have brought the sun and stars and water and all good things after he created the world. I don't know about that part of it, but he certainly brought humor and fun.

I love your post on ravens as they are also my favorite birds. I love their call in the forest. They say, in the Southwest, that they always stay where the People have lived and you do see their homes in the cliffs above dwellings below. In the forest, they are the ones who alert everyone else to danger approaching.

Wonderful videos! Thanks for sharing. I can see why the native Alaskans would belive that Raven brought the light...ravens are just that clever.

We get the occasional red-tailed hawk in our neighborhood, and the crows love to harrass them too.

Rain,
They also alert hunters, both wolves and men, of the presence of prey. They fly ahead and call and then they claim their share of the kill -- the wolves allow them to eat from the carcass and men allow them to feast when they clean the animal. A good deal for all concerned.

Pseu,
I like crows almost as much as I like ravens. Naturalists have tested, and crows are the second smartest birds in the world, second only to ravens.
