I usually type about 120 wpm. With my current numbness I am discovering just how much of that is with the left hand. So, it is the middle of the night & I've had 9 hours & decided to start on this & work on it all day off & on & get something done.
Very frustrating -- I was never good at hunt & peck. The next time I see my doctor, this is going to be item #1 to discuss. This had better be temporary!!!
So I saw the Dr. and, despite my fears, my hand will recover. Meantime, I am hunting & pecking & not saying much, because it it exhausting. I am having trouble getting enough sleep every night & food repels me. I eat in my room because other people's food gets to me. Open the tray, eat 5 or 6 bites, get it gone fast, fast, fast.
If anyone knows of anything to erase the smell of food let me know & I'll have my nephew, Dale, get some. T hank heavens for Dale! Sunday, on the theory that something I've been wanting may jump start some appetite, he is bringing a quarter pounder for lunch.

Poor mom. Did the doctor give you anything for the queasy? I'm guessing if they did, it's not working. Sigh.
(((Granny))) You poor dear. I hope the queasies go away soon, too, and you can enjoy your favorite foods again. Sugar helps me. :)
I wish there was a magic time machine to make this difficult time go faster for you, but please take care and know this, too, will all be a memory soon. Sending much love and sweetness to you!
I'm hoping the quarter pounder will do the trick. Hospital food *always* nauseates me. But do check with the docs, there are meds that can help if you're nauseated.
You DONTwant to lose your sense of smell. I had a friend who lost hers and she could taste NOTHING! for years!
I hope those queaies go away J....I hate that feeling too. Time will settle that and your hunt-and-peck typing....don't worry about it. Just continue to get better sweetie....it's really nice to see you back blogging....fast or slow.
I think the food smell aversion is unfair ... adding insult to injury, literally! I hope your doctor has figured out something to help with that.

I suspect the doctor will not put his stamp of approval on the quarter-pounder, MG!! I do hope you are able to get rid of the queasiness soon. Take care!

I don't know how to erase it from a room, but I can erase it from my nostrils by sniffing coffee beans. A fragrance store I used to visit actually kept small sachets of coffee beans around for customers to use as a kind of "palate" cleanser. Also sniffing lemons or other citrus works pretty well for me.
HTH...
I had a friend who had major knee surgery a year and a half ago and she did the same thing with loss of appetite. She lost quite a bit of weight but the appetite came back as did the weight. It might be the shock to the body or something about the whole process but if you can get some outside food that sounds good, that's the ticket. Hope things are better soon.
Oh, I wish we here in blogland were closer so we could visit you and cheer you up. Something homemade is what you need. A nice piece of buttered toast made from homemade bread. Some chicken soup with homemade noodles. How about a fruit smoothie? Those are the things that appeal to me when nothing else does.
Lots of love sent your way...marianne
amelia, that is the right name i hope, you've been on my mind over past weeks. delighted to know you're recovery moving along-- know it must feel good to be blogging again. impressed with your family's helpfulness, concern.
"Bad Air Sponge" has worked for us. www.mateson chemical.com is mfr. we bought at bed, bath store. will take photo of funny cartoon on container--somewhat sexist or maybe not.
currently your sister in one-hand typing. like you have to start/stop/rest. trying to vary which finger to use 'cause typing hand actually weaker one!
yours with many exuberant wishes for continued recovery, naomi
The distaste for food and the smell of food does pass eventually. So does the numbness.
You may need something different for nausea. They gave me gravol at first, which did nothing. I was then switched to Stomatil (I hope that's right) which helped tremendously.
What really helped me get rid of the nausea and generally dopey, heavy, feeling was getting off morphine. I had no idea it was doing that to me.
Hi Granny
When I clicked on to your blog I was so pleased to see that you are finally able to blog for yourself. You have been traveling on a long hard road but you are getting better.
Instead of trying to eat food that does not apppeal to you right now, have you considered trying a suppplement like ENSURE to get your needed nutrients without the smell and taste. I like ENSURE sometimes as a meal substitute.
Wishing you all the best in your recovery.

I feel your frustration! and still love reading your words, so thanks for all the work you're doing to stay in touch with us (DownUnder in Far North Queensland). Always best to check with medical folks, but you might consider peppermint tea for the nausea/food repelling problem. Even the smell can help.
Yay for family and quarter pounders!
I hope it works!
