Night From Hell

Shall I start by telling you I survived? Yes, we will take the mystery out of the entire thing.

Friday, Saturday, & Sunday nights were rough because I kept waking to pee and not getting as much sleep as I needed. Falling asleep during the day. Low energy.

So, Monday the doctor gave me a new sleeping pill. I took it at 9:30. By 11, I had been up to the bathroom 5 times. Never much, but the need was there. By 3:30 I was in despair and asked for (yes, asked for) a diaper. Except that my mother trained me too well -- I can't do that. At 4:30 I had stopped needing to go to the bathroom, so knowing that my insurance only pays for me to be here if I go to physical and occupational therapy, I figured I would sleep till 10:30. Got the nurse to help me to bed, and discovered that the call light had fallen between the bed and the frame. Couldn't call the nurse to rescue it because. . .

Finally got it fished out, was starting to fall asleep, figuring now on maybe four hours of sleep, and in comes the woman from the lab to take my blood. When she told me why she was there and refused to leave, my hands under the covers turned to claws. Twice she stuck me, and twice the other person she got stuck me and all four times hurt and none, count them 0, got any blood.

By now it is 7:15 and the joint is wide awake and I know I'm not getting any sleep. So, up I get. And discover that the person who ordered this blood letting was the same person who ordered the sleeping pill. I have a little hit list. One doctor and two bad clumsy lab techs.

Oddly enough, I've had a great day. Go figure.

Poor mom...that's an evil sleeping pill!

I'm glad you had a great day, no matter what crap they put you through. Hope you sleep well tonight.

((Granny)) You poor dear. It's so hard for anyone to sleep in those beds (blecht) and in that environment. I wish I could whisk you away to a quite cottage along the ocean with the biggest, fluffiest bed you can ever imagine, a fresh gentle breeze coming through the windows and no interruptions but the occasional chirping of a bird. You are hanging in there wonderfully and doing much better than I would! Please keep the faith that this will all soon be a memory. I hope you sleep tight tonight. Hugs, Sandy

One would think that, by now, the staff would know how to clip the call button to your pillow case so that the button doesn't get beyond your reach. Please insist that they do that!

Oh does anybody get any sleep in those places? My mother said the same thing J. And there's nothing worse than inept technicians who are there to get your blood...HELP. Isn't it there job to do that task well? What's up with that sleeping pill? Yeah, I think SOMEONE should be on your 'hit list.'

All of that...and you managed to have a good day...you are wonderful J....sleep tight tonight sweetie.

Sorry you had such a crappy night. Keeping access to those call lights seems always to be a problem, but sorry yours got away. When I read about the frequent urination trips, I immed. wondered if you had a UTI 'cause sometimes those can go awhile before anyone catches them. Speaks well of your fighting spirit, that in spite of it all you had a good day. Hope the left hand is coming along.

Well Granny, talk about the night from hell, you sure experienced it.

I wonder if the lab tech nurse was possibly named "Nurse Ratchet" ?

I was in the hospital for a week in Sept. I was really low on blood due to a seepy tummy from Motrin. anyway, they were transfusing me with 6 pints of blood, and while they were putting it in one arm they were literally TAKING it out of the other arm!! A SOOOO wanted to knock them across the room, because they just could not find a vein!!

ARRGHHHH

I hate that you have to be going through all this. I share your dislike of hospitals, doctors and inept staff ... but I applaud you for keeping your fighting spirit.
I hope things will be better today.

Wow, what an awful night!

In any event, it looks from here like your typing is getting better and your mind is plenty sharp. Hope the rest of the "feeling better" comes along shortly.

Glad I'm not that doctor......
